How 70.000 volunteers in Ukraine turned smartphones into 3D scanners to save their heritage.
DIGITAL PRESERVATION AGAINST CULTURAL DESTRUCTION
Russia’s war on Ukraine isn’t just about land; it’s about erasing identity. Cultural destruction is an intentional weapon, with hundreds of heritage sites reduced to rubble, aiming to sever Ukraine’s past from its future.
But we turned this destruction on its head. Backup Ukraine gave citizens the power to preserve their history digitally, using only their smartphones.
With 3D scanning technology, volunteers created high-definition models of landmarks, storing them securely in the cloud, where no bomb could reach.
