Hiding Anti-surveillance patterns in football fan face paint to bypass Qatar’s 250,000 surveillance cameras.
GIVE FANS A TOOL TO PROTECT
THEIR IDENTITY.
With the World Cup under constant watch by a regime with questionable human rights practices, we wanted to give fans a tool to protect their identity. So we created Camoflags: patterns based on the flags of participating countries — but engineered to exploit the blind spots of facial recognition technology.
We developed the patterns by turning artificial intelligence against itself: Feeding the MidJourney algorithm images of verified anti-surveillance patterns and asked it to imagine them as flags of different countries, then testing and iterating against machine learning models to break the algorithm.
